A few years ago, we
were driving through the country (taking Will to Scout
Camp) when we passed a corn field with a lot of nothing
- mostly scraggly corn and dirt. I said "man...
that's some sad looking corn". Walker (who must
have been 3 or 4 at the time just kept repeating that
phrase and wanting to see the "sad looking corn"... so
that's where this song came from...
Hard Dirt Road (Where Dreams were Sown)
Daddy that’s some sad looking corn
A child never spoke truer words
I try to hide my tears
And my darkest fears
The sheriff will soon be here,
For the sheriff will soon be here
[Chorus]
Down a long hard dirt road
Like dry dusty bones
Another farm lies foreclosed
Where a lifetime of dreams were sown
Where our lifetime of dreams are gone
Daddy why is mommy so sad
And why is she packing our clothes
There’s nothing left for us here
Backbreaking bad years
A way of life is over and gone,
Our way of life is over and gone.
[Chorus]
Down a long hard dirt road
Like dry dusty bones
Another farm foreclosed
Where a lifetime of dreams were sown
Where our lifetime of dreams are gown
