This is the first gospel song I wrote. I started out with something else in mind and ended up with what I think is a pretty unique song.

Taking Reservations

It’s the time of year when the leaves start falling,
Remembering promises that in vain were once made,
Standing under the moonlight, how fast they were broken.
That first step into sin now seems so far away.

The years slowly pass and illusions fade with age,
Somewhere the lessons learned as a child are bound to stay.
The voices of darkness that whisper all around us,
Keep pulling us under; you see hell’s one breath away.

[Chorus]
And you’d better believe
There’s evil all around us
Just waiting for the moment
That your guard has fell
With the face of an angel
The devil’s taking reservations
He’s taking reservations
For your place in hell

For God has mercy on the soul of a sinner,
He’ll fight by your side if you have faith and believe.
No soul has been lost that asked for forgiveness,
There’s no depth of darkness beyond where he can see.

You can wander in sin and loose your bearing,
Be taken in by evil that’ll steal your soul in trade.
If you survive the battle, help others find his way,
Fire only tempers the steel in the Master’s strongest blade.

[Chorus]
And you’d better believe
There’s evil all around us
Just waiting for the moment
That your guard has fell
With the face of an angel
The devil’s taking reservations
He’s taking reservations
For your place in hell
